Reasons for Tally.ERP 9 not responding
Sometimes Tally stops responding and shows a not responding message in the title bar. This could happen due to various reasons. The first step towards finding the solution for this problem is identifying what is causing Tally to not respond.
So here's a list of problems that might be causing your Tally to work slow and display the 'Tally not responding message'. This will also help you to understand how to make Tally fast.
Large data size
When the data size is huge Tally may take time to load and thus may fail to respond. The solution to this problem is split your data. Year-wise splitting of data is a good practice as it decreases the data load on the system and thus tally will be able to load all the user requests quickly.
Anti-virus scan
Most computers have an anti-virus software on the system that continuously keeps scanning all the real time data on the system. Real time Tally data must not be scanned continuously or else it will not be able to process its data thus causing delay in providing response to the user. This often leads to Tally not responding and giving the 'not responding' message.
The solution to this problem is to save the Tally folder in the exception folder of the Anti-virus/ firewall.
Multiple users using Tally at the same time
Tally is single threaded and often cannot process two user requests simultaneously. Thus one has to wait for tally to finish the pending tasks and only then it will be able to process new user requests.
System used as a Tally server
Is the computer with the most powerful CPU kept as the Tally Server? If not, then do it now, as this affects the speed of the client systems as well.
Check RAM
If not just Tally but all software over the same network are working slow, you may consider checking the RAM of your system. It is advisable to keep atleast 4GB Storage of RAM in the windows operating system. You can increase the RAM and check if the issue is solved.
Even after fixing all these issues, if your Tally is still working slow or Often shows the Tally not responding message, your Tally could be in the need of some expert help.
